Migrate to Shopify
Shopify migration: your catalog moves, your collections and sorting rules do not
Products, customers and orders migrate cleanly. The logic that decided what shoppers saw first usually does not. These guides map merchandising, sorting and search capability from your current platform to Shopify, name what has no native equivalent, and show what closes the gap.
Migration guides by platform
Written for the moment someone sits down with two columns, everything the old platform did on the left and its Shopify equivalent on the right, and has to fill in the gaps.
Salesforce Commerce Cloud to Shopify
What happens to your SFCC sorting rules, search refinements and Einstein logic on Shopify, what has no native equivalent, and what closes the gap.
Magento to Shopify
How Magento and Adobe Commerce category rules, Visual Merchandiser and layered navigation map onto Shopify, and which capabilities have no native equivalent.
Custom Platform to Shopify
Moving off a custom-built or headless platform? Product records migrate cleanly. The sorting, category and ranking logic around them lives in undocumented code.
What these guides map
Every replatforming project produces a parity spreadsheet. Data, theme, payments and integrations all get a row. These six usually do not, and they are the ones that decide what a shopper sees first on a category page.
Collection membership rules
What puts a product into a collection, and what takes it out again when it sells out or stops performing.
Sort order
Which signals decide the order inside a collection, and whether more than one can apply at once.
Category structure
How deep a catalog hierarchy survives the move, and what gets flattened along the way.
Search relevance
Faceted filtering and any ranking that was tuned by hand, which is rarely written down anywhere.
Product recommendations
Related and cross-sell logic, and whether it still agrees with how collections are ordered.
Measurement
Whether you can prove a merchandising change helped, or only notice months later that it did not.
Why merchandising is the capability that gets missed
Migration plans are built around things that break visibly. If products fail to import you know within the hour. Merchandising fails quietly: the collections exist, they hold the right products, and the order they appear in is no longer driven by the business signals it used to be. Nothing errors, and category page conversion just sits lower.
It is a design decision, not a post-launch configuration task, which is why it belongs in the plan, not the backlog.
Planning a replatform?
If merchandising parity is on your migration plan and the Shopify column is still empty, that is a conversation worth having before launch rather than after it.
